KONSEP IDEAL MANAJEMEN KOPERASI PEMBIAYAAN SYARIAH

Abstract

Sharia Financial Cooperatives (Koperasi Pembiayaan Syariah or KPS) play a vital role in supporting the Islamic economy by adhering to principles of Islamic law, including the prohibition of usury (riba), uncertainty (gharar), and gambling (maysir). However, many Islamic cooperatives still face challenges in maintaining operational compliance with Islamic principles due to pragmatic approaches in practice and limitations in supervision and Sharia understanding. This study aims to identify the ideal management and governance concepts for Sharia cooperatives and examine their practical implementation. The research method employed is a literature review, examining academic literature, scholarly journals, and relevant documents to establish Sharia- compliant cooperative management guidelines.

The study’s findings indicate that the effectiveness of Sharia cooperative management heavily depends on active supervision by the Sharia Supervisory Board (Dewan Pengawas Syariah or DPS), the implementation of Sharia-compliant Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and education and training for cooperative managers and members. This study found that major implementation barriers include limited Sharia knowledge among managers, financial constraints, and a reliance on pragmatic approaches that sometimes overlook Sharia principles. The implications of this study suggest the need for strengthening DPS roles through training, utilizing technology to enhance transparency and access to education, and government support in providing guidelines and incentives for Sharia cooperatives. With this approach, Sharia cooperatives can become credible and ethical financial institutions capable of creating sustainable welfare.
