Abstract

English language learning in remote and multicultural areas, such as Desa Rantau Durian, presents unique challenges due to limited access to resources and systemic inequalities. This study addresses the critical gap in research concerning the adaptation of English language learning materials and pedagogical models to local contexts, and the active involvement of the community in the educational process within such settings. Drawing upon a systematic review of Sinta and Scopus indexed journals from the past five years, this research synthesizes existing literature on English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education in remote areas, the significance of community engagement in rural education, and strategies for adapting learning materials to culturally relevant contexts. Findings indicate a scarcity of comprehensive studies that integrate these three crucial aspects, highlighting a need for pedagogical models that are culturally responsive, leverage local community resources, and address issues of accessibility and equity. This paper proposes a framework for English language education in remote, multicultural environments, emphasizing contextualized learning and community- based participatory approaches to enhance English language proficiency and bridge educational disparities. The study contributes to the discourse on inclusive education by advocating for tailored educational interventions that respect and integrate local cultural nuances and community strengths.
