Abstract

           This research aims to reveal the role of Indonesian language teachers in developing school literacy programs at Islamic Middle School Cendikia Darussalam Tugumulyo, North Musi Rawas, South Sumatra for the 2024/2025 academic year. A qualitative approach with a case study design is used to explore teachers' real practices in designing, implementing and evaluating literacy programs. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with 8 Indonesian language teachers, participatory observation of 12 literacy activities, and document analysis (School Literacy Program Plan, activity journals, and reports). The results show that Indonesian language teachers act as main designers (100%), implementers (87.5%), facilitators (91.7%), and evaluators (79.2%). The dominant forms of activity are the 15-minute School Literacy Movement, class reading corners, poetry creation competitions, and non-learning book reviews. The main obstacles are limited time (75%) and minimal book collection (66.7%). Teachers succeeded in increasing the frequency of students' library visits from 1.2 times/month to 4.8 times/month. This research recommends strengthening the role of teachers as school literacy coordinators and ongoing training.
